Earth Day is such a fun Holiday, especially getting to teach the students the ways they can love and care for our Earth.  I decided to use some of the Natural Resources Unit that I made for Science to help teach my students about Earth Day and wanted to share a freebie with you guys!

Light and Shadow!

Happy Belated Groundhogs Day!
We are lucky that our Science Instructional Calendar lined up so that we were studying Light and Shadows on February 2nd this year.  With all the standards that we have to fit in, it's great to have a reason to celebrate :-)
This year my kids did some cute Groundhog's day writing, talking about what their life would be like as a groundhog.  I was really happy with and amused by their finished products!
We also talk about how to make a shadow, and different light sources.  Because I feel our Science Resources are sometimes lacking, I created a Light and Shadow Unit for my students.  My friend The Lesson Plan Diva got to use some of these activities in her classroom today and said her students really enjoyed them.  Click here to grab your copy!

Is it an apple, pumpkin, or both? Freebie!

This past week we have been observing,exploring, and reading the characteristics of apples and pumpkins as I'm sure most of you have.  I created these cards as a venn diagram activity to really get the students involved and thinking. Click on the picture to download.

Science Time!

Another often difficult task as a primary grades teacher is finding the time and resources to teach science.  With everything else that has to be fit into the day, I find myself fitting science review lessons into my literacy centers.  I made this unit on The Water Cycle to help my kids review our science lessons during centers.  It includes three center activities, that can be used independently or in whole group.  It also includes six assessment pieces.  Hope you can use it too!

5 Senses

I don't know about everyone else but I am so glad summer is here! But for some reason I can't seem to stop making activities. I guess the classroom is always on our minds. Here's a 5 senses activity that can be used for a pocket chart or as sorting activity. I thought it might be good for my Kindergartners at the beginning of year and serve as a review in first grade with the sentences. I was going to put the reinforcement sheets in sheet protectors to cut down on copies. Hope it's helpful!

Butterfly Booklet

My very adorable and smart niece (I'm not biased I promise :-) started singing this cute song about the life cycle of a butterfly one day when we were hanging out.  She told me I should share it with my kindergarten class, and I agreed!  To teach me the song, she drew me a storyboard of all the different lines (picture coming soon!).  I took the song, (and cute pictures!) and made it into a book.  This is a great science activity that my students had a lot of success with and enjoyed making.
